Many of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook may recall how hard I was pushing people to attend the recent TWM show with GIRAFFES? GIRAFFES! at Rancho Relaxo on Sunday Aug 15. If you were in attendance, you witnessed one of the all-time great Rancho sets. If you were not in attendance, you lamented it when everyone who was started buzzing about how great it was.
Well, either way, you’re in luck!
The set was recorded that night, and the band has been gracious enough to put it up on bandcamp for a free download. This might well be the first documented live-at-Rancho-Relaxo album release. That is pretty bloody cool!
And Cam Harding has done a wonderful job here with the mix and such — this sounds as close as humanly possible to the experience of actually being there on that magical night.
It is hard to put into words what happened that Sunday. Three bands played before Giraffes — people showed up as early as 8PM but the band didn’t actually hit the stage till just after midnight. It was sweaty as can be, there was moshing, and I think everybody in the bar left with some form of merch purchased from the band. I think if you listen hard enough, you can hear that enthusiasm in this recording.
