NXNE Night #2 – Fucked Up, The Descendents, Suuns, and more.
Sleep be damned, I’m here with my second write up of the festival! Last night was a ton of fun, I spent most of my time at a happily rainless Y&D Square, but I made sure to fit in some … Continue reading

The Love Machine @ Rancho Relaxo
I always enjoy a show with the Love Machine. They play well, their songs grab you, and the fun they have on stage is infectious. They have great live chemistry, as well; I like it when you can tell from … Continue reading

Girl + The Machine @ Rancho Relaxo
Well, I don’t have a photo of this band, because I wasn’t into the music enough to go to the front of the bar. In fairness to Girl + The Machine, I was watching hockey, but the first two bands … Continue reading

Broken Bricks @ Rancho Relaxo
I spent much of the Broken Bricks set trying to figure out which band their sound reminded me of. I think I settled on Arctic Monkeys, but that’s still not really right. What I can tell you is that it’s … Continue reading

Young Contrarians @ Rancho Relaxo
It’s too bad Young Contrarians don’t play more often, but it’s a nice treat when they do. Their synthy but dark songs were a great way to start off the festival — catchy but not overwhelming.
Enjoy Your Pumas: These Pumas are rather fresh
(I couldn’t help myself.) A lot of bands come to Toronto to play NXNE from pretty far away — like Enjoy Your Pumas, who are coming east from Winnipeg for the first time. That’s no short-haul trip, guys.

NXNE Artist Spotlight: Monokino
If electro-indie is your thing, then you may want to focus your attention towards Amsterdam’s Monokino. The three-piece band plays upbeat synthpop with a little bit of an ’80s sound. Think if the singer of Placebo fronted a band that … Continue reading
