In Good Company With Matt & Kim

I’m not sure if you’ve had the pleasure of hearing, seeing or experiencing the kinetic duo who is Matt and Kim…if not, let me whisper you a little something about a much needed rendezvous.
These Brooklyn kids hands down, generated enough energy Saturday night to power the CN tower, possibly even the whole city with the help of the glowing crowd that was in attendance. They played a fun mix of dancy keyboards and poppy drums that were crazy addictive that no dancing was just not an option. At one point everyone in the place was bopping around that I could feel the floor bending beneath our weight, scary for a solid thirty seconds before my attention was recaptured by the beckoning YEA YEAH chorus being chanted.
And as if they didn’t already win me and the crowd over with their killer tunes they had to go and charm our pants off by being totally sweet and praising of our city & our badass selves and asked us to sign their banner so they could take us all home, cute.
Another attractive characteristic about the pair was the amount they interacted with their fans. Both were talking and dancing/clapping throughout the duration of the performance and Matt even tried his hand at body surfing which was a success even though the crowd looked like they were going to fully drop him at one point! And to finish the night off proper they decided to stick around after the show and smooze with everyone, a refreshing change from the all to familiar pretentiousness often exhibited following a show.
I also need to mention what a happening place the Whippersnapper is. Art and great music go so well together that I’m thinking it should be a mandatory law for all venues to adopt, although that might then take away from what makes this place so rad. I especially enjoyed the black & white projection of the crowd set up, an interesting method to join and include the people into the art.
My recommendation is as follows: If you love to dance Matt & Kim are for you. Dig out your tapp’n shoes next time they are in town and be prepared to sweat. Check out the Whippersnapper, whether to see a show or the art or if you are lucky enough to catch them both at once, you are guaranteed a fun time.
