Bravestation released their newest EP this past weekend at the El Mocambo, to a packed house — nice to see when the band was on last, as that’s often not the case. Actually, the whole show was pretty rewarding, because every act held its own but the four all worked together well.
The only band on the bill that I hadn’t seen before was Retro Radio, so I had no idea what to expect from them, but by the end of their set I was a fan. I particularly liked singer Nora Decter’s low-key vocals. I’ve seen Old World Vulture play several times recently, including at their own release show, but they’re solid for each one. Their instrumental post-rock filled out the El Mocambo’s stage well. I haven’t seen Lovely Killbots play in a while, conversely, and I think they’re tighter than ever now; I really enjoyed the newer tracks in their set. And Bravestation’s tight set left me wanting another couple songs, which can’t be a bad thing.
