Today In Music News: Thursday July 22

Smashing Pumpkins will be playing a benefit show to raise money for Medina Lake bassist Matthew Leone, who is recovering from injuries he sustained while trying to break up an altercation in Chicago. Leone suffered severe brain trauma and underwent surgery to removed a large chunk of his skull, and is currently without medical insurance to cover the costs of his treatment.

Shortly after announcing their first show since the sudden death of their drummer and a name change, You Say Party have now put out the word that they have a digital remix LP, Remixxxx, coming out in September on Paper Bag Records.

Ra Ra Riot’s sophomore album, The Orchard, will be re-released in Canada by Arts and Crafts on August 24.

The Dears will perform their entire new album during short residencies in Toronto (The Garrison), Montreal (Santa Cruz Church) and Brooklyn (The Knitting Factory).

Jack White continued his lifetime world tour of badassery by performing at the White House.

One Iggy and the Stooges fan will get to film the band’s performance for All Tomorrow’s Parties, and then interview the band afterwards. That’s pretty cool.
