It’s been five years since The Russian Futurists released Our Thickness, but they’re back with a new record called The Weight’s on the Wheels and Matthew Adam Hart spoke to Exclaim! about recording this record in a professional studio:

“I did a version of the record, just in my bedroom, and I was kinda happy with it, but we got offered this chance to go down to New York and work with [Michael Musmanno] a producer who’s recorded albums by one of my favourite bands, the Lilys,” explains Hart. “He also did Outkast and some other groups I like, so he was interested and we thought, ‘Why not just try and make a proper studio record.’

The Fiery Furnaces are no strangers to odd side-releases (see: their silent record, their record with Matthew’s grandmother), and according to the band they plan on releasing ten (!) of them next year.

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly [via TwentyFourBit], the albums will include eight solo ones from Matthew Friedberger, a solo record from Eleanor Friedberger and a new full band release from the Fiery Furnaces.

Mash-up mastermind Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis) has a free mixtape called All Day available now as one continuous track, or separated into mp3’s.

New York City’s Carnegie Hall will be host to an exciting Neil Young tribute concert, with some really cool guests, on February 10th.

CBC reports that more than 20 acts have signed on for the performance. Among the big names are Patti Smith, Cowboy Junkies, the Roots, J Mascis (of Dinosaur Jr.), Joan Osborne, Bettye LaVette, Aimee Mann, Pete Yorn, Mason Jennings and DeVotchKa.
