Here’s a quick rundown of some major releases hitting shelves today in music stores:
Lots of great releases coming out today, from some big-name heavy hitters and smaller bands alike.
First up, the new Okkervil River record I Am Very Far is out today. Okkervil River are one of my favourite bands, but their last record The Stand-Ins didn’t really grab me. The new one has been getting solid reviews across the board though, so I’m getting pumped about it.
Sad-sacks The Antlers are following up their breakthrough album Hospice today with the new LP Burst Apart. They debuted the record earlier this year by streaming a live version of it, so if you dug that it’s time to check out the studio recording.
The wonderfully weird Man Man’s new record Life Fantastic is out today, continuing in their tradition of creating oddball pop music that fuses Zappa-esque instrumentation with gruff vocals not unlike those of Tom Waits.
The Wilderness of Manitoba have a new album of downtempo atmospheric folk and lush vocal arrangements called When You Left The Fire.
Booker T.‘s new LP The Road From Memphis is his first since 2009’s Grammy winning Potato Hole (recorded with the Drive By Truckers). Memphis was produced by Booker T. Jones himself with The Roots’ ?uestlove and Rob Schnapf. Backing music was also provided by The Roots, so you know this one is going to sound fantastic on wax. Get it!!
Other notable artists with albums out today include Manchester Orchestra, a new record from The Cars, Moving Mountains, and more.
